Learn about the benefits you can get from this, but also the precautions you should take to avoid adverse effects.
The refrigerator is one of the appliances that accumulates the most odors from the food and drinks that are usually stored there. Often, cleaning does not work, and you have to resort to home remedies or tricks to achieve a pleasant aroma.
One of them is to put orange peels on the shelves. This avoids the use of chemicals that could affect the food in the refrigerator.
It is also one of the most widely used tricks because of its mild and natural scent. This is due to the essential oils in the peel of this fruit, which release fresh and citrus aromas to neutralize odors.
On the other hand, it makes use of a part of the fruit that usually ends up in the trash.
How to apply this trick
- Wash the peels thoroughly before peeling them to remove any pesticide or wax residue. When you eat an orange, save the peels.
- Distribute the peels on different shelves or in an open container. You can also put them in a cloth bag or cheesecloth.
- To enhance the effect, you can mix them with baking soda.
- Change the peels every 7 to 10 days, because they lose their aroma and effectiveness.
Once a week, check your food and discard anything that is no longer in good condition. However, be aware of excess moisture in the refrigerator, as this could lead to mold and mildew, causing the opposite effect.
